Die Mutter gilt es heut zu ehren,
daher wohl tunlich mein Begehren:
Gedenkt der Mutter liebevoll.

Gebt ihr Gewissheit, sie ist toll!
Sagt: Danke, Mutter, für dein Tun,
drückt ihre Hände, die nicht ruh’n,
die uns beschützen, sanft berühren,
und uns durchs harte Leben führen!

Ach, wär die Mutter noch am Leben,
was würde ich doch alles geben,
um ihr zu sagen, hör mir zu:
Mein größtes Vorbild, das bist du!

Du hast im Stillen nur geweint,
du hast es stets nur gut gemeint.
Hast meine Tränen abgeküsst,
für meine Streiche oft gebüßt!

Du warst der Fels in Freud und Schmerz,
ein wahrhaft treues Mutterherz.
Mein Herz, das Großes hat bewegt,
und das – wo immer – für mich schlägt!
